黑发泼辣的Max（凯特·戴琳斯 Kat Dennings 饰）在纽约布鲁克林区一家低档餐馆打工，餐馆同事包括小个子亚裔老板Han Lee、爱讲荤段子的厨子Oleg（Jonathan Kite 饰）和高龄收银员Earl。餐馆新来的女招待Caroline（贝丝·贝尔斯 Beth Behrs 饰）金发高挑，名媛范十足，与餐馆档次格格不入。Max对Caroline的身份产生了质疑，无意间得知Caroline曾是曼哈顿区真正的千金小姐，父亲破产后为生存沦落到店里打工。嘴利心软的Max收留了无家可归的Caroline，虽然身份背景不同，同样身无分文的境地还是令两个女孩成为了好朋友。 Caroline虽然落难，却仍时刻惦记着运用自己的商业头脑干出一番事业。她偶然发现Max有制作纸杯蛋糕的才能，便鼓励Max与自己合伙开间蛋糕店。不过要实现这一梦想，她们得设法筹集到25万美元的创业资金，这对于囊中羞涩的姐妹俩似乎是项不小的挑战……
